New year, new ECN Asia

There comes a time “when the rules of business change fast, ferociously, and forever,” to borrow the words of Intel’s Andrew Grove. Such a time has come for ECN Asia.
When we launched ECN Asia in March 2005, our aim was to provide the designer a comprehensive “electronic component & product information” magazine every month. The large number of products introduced in the market every day with staggering diversities of specifications often confused the designer about which product best met his design requirements. ECN Asia endeavored to partner with him in arriving at the correct decision in product choice. On one side the magazine provided him with objective information of new products; on the other, it offered him through features and articles additional exposure to their uses in designs.
Now we are taking ECN Asia beyond its role of “electronic component & product information” magazine so that it can play a more comprehensive role in the designer’s professional life. We believe that we can better serve the design fraternity with its indefatigable demands for integration and convergence by seeing components in relation to the designer’s full range of activities than in isolation. In the new format we would like to describe ECN Asia as “The complete electronics design magazine.”
“Hands-on” design problems and solutions will be an essential part of the magazine. However, ECN Asia will go beyond and look at designer-related issues in totality over a long term rather than in terms of immediate problems and solutions. These issues may pertain to technologies, products, markets, or anything touching day-to-day designer life. While drawing upon the strengths of our own staff to provide designers with useful articles, we shall constantly involve the industry in writing for us objective articles that would enable companies share their design experiences with the design fraternity in Asia-Pacific.
To provide continuity to the readers who have been with us from the beginning, ECN Asia online will be as committed to new products as before, even as ECN Asia print will focus less on new products and more on articles. We shall continue uploading nearly 25 new product items every day, as from the start of the magazine. Readers can rely upon us as before to bring to them the latest information on the latest products as fast as possible. Besides, we shall upload design-related news items covering both technology and market. Thus, our current readers can look forward to getting more than before while we expand the base of our editorial coverage, and the new readers can hope to find in one place the entire gamut of information they need to be current in their day-to-day work. The print and the online together will be the designer’s indispensable companions toward making him competitive in this age of rapidly changing technologies and markets. As always, we shall welcome comments from our readers to help us better serve them.
