Hitachi Appoints New SouthEast Asia Distributors Strengthening Regional Hard Drive Channel Coverage

(Business and Technology News, 28 Apr 2008 )

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has appointed Convergent Systems (S) Pte Ltd and PT Mikrotek Internasional as authorized distributors for Hitachi hard disk drives (HDDs). Headquartered in Singapore, Convergent Systems will distribute Hitachi HDDs in Singapore and Malaysia. PT Mikrotek will enhance Hitachi’s channel coverage in Indonesia.

Convergent Systems, a leading distributor of technology-related products in Singapore, offers a wide range of products including memory devices, UPS, motherboards, graphics cards, digital media, video-editing and storage solutions. The company has a wide channel network in Singapore and Malaysia.

PT Mikrotek has extensive experience in distributing HDDs and other IT storage products such as networking solutions in Indonesia. The company has a broad network and wide geographical channel coverage throughout Indonesia, including resellers and system integrators based in tier two cities.

Under the distribution agreements, Convergent Systems and PT Mikrotek will carry Hitachi GST’s broad product line of HDDs for notebooks, desktop PCs, servers and consumer electronics devices. Both new distributors will have access to Hitachi’s array of sales, technical and marketing tools for its partners. They join Hitachi’s existing distributors namely Acecom Technologies Pte Ltd in Singapore, M-Link System Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and PT Bintang Mas Rezeki Nusantara in Indonesia.

“Demand for HDDs in Southeast Asian countries is growing rapidly especially in the areas of consumer, IT and enterprise segments,” said James Ho, managing director, Asia Pacific, Hitachi GST. “Convergent Systems and PT Mikrotek have extensive experience in distributing HDDs and serve huge channel networks within their local countries. We are confident that the new partnerships will help boost our brand awareness as well as market penetration in this region.”

Kelvin Khong, managing director of Convergent Systems, said, “Being twenty-five years in the IT distribution business, Convergent has developed strong relationships with its network of customers. We are confident in our ability to deepen Hitachi's penetration and secure its market position in these markets.”

Charles Chia, director of PT Mikrotek, said, “Hitachi is a leading manufacturer of HDDs. The addition of its high quality HDDs to our portfolio allows us to provide our valuable customers with a wide range of hard drive products.”
