FCI’s Slimline Connector Compliant with SATA-I/O 2.6 Spec

(Product News, 01 Jul 2008 )

FCI has expanded its line of storage interface interconnects with the development of the Slimline connector, which is designed to enable the connection of a “slimline” form factor drive to the Serial ATA interface. The slimline connector is ideal for applications such as removable optical disk drive interfaces, desktop/ notebook PCs, gaming equipment and internal/ external ODD drives. The connector is designed to fit into the presently used PATA (Parallel ATA) connector slimline design with almost no changes to the slimline drive case, media tray, or internal mechanics. A simple replacement of the PATA PC board with a SATA controller and connector in the present slimline drive designs is now possible.

The connector preserves the design of the signal portion of the present SATA connector and accommodates presently available SATA signal cables. Offering high durability of 500 cycles, the connector withstands a mating force of 45N maximum and an unmating force of 10N minimum. The connector is available in a 13-position version (7-pos with 1.27mm pitch for signal and 6-pos with 1mm pitch for power). The slimline SATA connectors are compliant with the Serial ATA international Organization (SATA-I/O) released 2.6 revision specification for Optical Disk Drive (ODD) systems.
