Charge-Time Flash Capacitor Chargers from Maxim

(Product News, 08 Aug 2008 )

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced its MAX8685 series of xenon photoflash capacitor chargers with an integrated switching FET, IGBT driver, and output short- and open-circuit protection. Equipped with integrated switching FET, IGBT driver, and output short- and open-circuit protection, the MAX8685 Series is suited for SLR DSCs, film cameras, cell phone cameras, web cameras, or personal media players. Model MAX8685F, with integrated voltage monitor and programmable current limit of 2.6 A, can charge 100 µF capacitor to 300 V in 2 sec. Housed in 2 x 3 mm, 8-pin TDFN packages, Models MAX8685C/MAX8685D do not include voltage monitor or input-voltage monitoring. The MAX8685F is available in a tiny 3mm x 3mm, 14-pin TDFN package. The MAX8685C and MAX8685D, which do not include a voltage monitor or input-voltage monitoring, are available in a 2mm x 3mm, 8-pin TDFN package. All versions of the MAX8685 are screened for the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs and time to market.
