RECOM Power Announces Universal AC-DC Power Supplies

(Product News, 11 Aug 2008 )

RECOM Power has announced its 5W and 10W RAC-SB series is available in either encapsulated PCB mount or panel mount (screw terminal) formats. Both converters share the same pin out, leaving an upgrade path from 5W to 10W. With a footprint of only approximately 2" x 1", the units are for applications where board space is extremely limited. With this range of products, RECOM believes to offer the power density, and quality 5W and 10W modules on the market.

The modules have universal 90VAC-264VAC inputs and can also be used with 120VDC-370VDC supplies. Output voltages range from 3.3VDC to 24VDC in five output options. The converters are short circuit, overload and over-voltage protected. They offer tightly regulated output voltages (even under no-load conditions) and generate smooth, low ripple and low noise outputs. All models have a peak load capability that can provide 150% of rated output power for a maximum of 30 seconds. The high power efficiencies of up to 76% mean that no additional heat sinking or forced airflow is required. They operate at full power up to +50°C and can be used at up to +70°C if derated. Standard versions can be used down to -25°C and an -E version is available with an extended low temperature range down to -40°C.

The series has a Class II input, meaning that no earth connection is required. This suits portable equipment designs where a reliable ground is not always available. Input to output isolation is rated at 3kVAC minimum. External filtering components are not required since the power supplies already meet EN55022, level B for conducted and radiated EMC with their inbuilt filters. The converters are UL listed.
