Vishay Extends Hi-Rel COTS T97 Series

(Product News, 14 Aug 2008 )

Vishay Intertechnology has extented its TANTAMOUNT Hi-Rel COTS T97 series to offer solid tantalum chip capacitor with a 63-V rating to meet derating requirements in +28-V power supply designs. With a 63-V rating and capacitance of 22μF, the T97 device in the "F" case size solves this long-standing issue by allowing designers to incorporate solid surface-mount tantalum capacitors into their +28-V power supply designs while fully complying with derating requirements. Featuring a dual anode construction to ensure the lowest ESR in its class, the T97 series is designed for safety-critical applications such as those found in the military and aerospace industries, including dc-to-dc converters and power distribution in weapons and radar systems, avionics, and space-based electronics. The devices offer designers a wide array of ratings not found in available MIL specifications, combining the flexibility and convenience of a commercial product with the reliability needed in demanding applications.

These conformal-coated capacitors with wrap-around terminations offer high-reliability screening options including Weibull grading, and surge current testing options in accordance with MIL-PRF-55365 in five case sizes. This differentiates T97 devices from commercial-grade capacitors by featuring the required reliability and surge screening options necessary to ensure performance in Hi-Rel applications while still maintaining a maximum capacitance-voltage product, a figure of merit that measures the amount of energy a capacitor can store, and helps designers choose the best capacitor for their applications. Part of Vishays TANTAMOUNT tantalum capacitor family, the T97 series has a capacitance range of 15μF to 1500μF and a voltage range from 4V to 63V. It offers ultra-low ESR values, which range from 0.015Ω to 0.30Ω at +25°C and 100kHz. Devices in the T97 series operate over a temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, +125°C with voltage derating. The samples and production quantities of the 63-V T97 are available now, with lead times of 7 to 10 weeks, depending on the level of reliability screening requested.
