Maxim Integrated Products has introduced its MAX16054, a pushbutton on/off controller with debounce circuitry and ±15kV ESD protection. This device features state memory that causes the output state to latch after the switch is released/opened, thereby allowing normally open switches to act as on/off switches. Enabling simpler, switches with on/off capability, the MAX16054 is for handheld devices, portable electronics, set-top boxes, portable instrumentation, and white goods. The MAX16054 is a highly durable device designed to withstand harsh operating conditions. Its integrated switch-debounce circuitry allows the device to accept a noisy input from a mechanical switch and produce a clean, latched digital output signal. This increases reliability and reduces design time compared to alternate solutions. To further increase reliability, the MAX16054 is rated to withstand up to ±15kV of ESD, providing essential protection for applications involving an end-user interface. The MAX16054 consumes only 7microamps of quiescent current. It is available in a small, 6-pin thin-SOT23 package, and is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius automotive temperature range.
