TORKDISC Rotary Torque Sensor System from the Force/Torque Division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB) is a compact in-line rotary torque sensor, suited for spindle qualification testing of machining center and other torque measurement applications that require a torque transducer where axial space is at a premium. The torque sensor can aid in selecting proper spindle sizes by comparing rated power to actual torque delivered to cutting tools. The compact, low weight TORKDISC features high torsional stiffness and low sensitivity to axial and thrust bending moments.
The TORKDISC features a telemetry system that consists of an on-board electronic module that converts torque signals into a high-speed digital representation. Once in digital form, this data is transmitted to a non-contacting pick-up loop, with no risk of noise or data corruption. A remote receiver unit converts the digital data to a high-level analog output voltage, frequency output, and a serial digital output. The TORKDISC Series offers capacities from 2,000 to 225,000 in-lb (226 to 25.4 k N-m) full-scale and maximum speeds to 15,000 RPM. Other applications include dynamometer testing of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials and torque studies on pumps, fans and electric motors.
