OTCS celebrates 10th anniversary in Singapore

(Business News, 21 Jun 2006 )

By Denice Cabel

Oki Techno Centre Pte Ltd, a research and development company owned by Japan's Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd, celebrated its 10th year of operation in Singapore. The center was set up in June 1996, aiming to promote progress in society and enhance the quality of life through its devotion to R&D in the areas of wireless digital communication systems, related software and hardware devices.

Oki Techno Centre (OTCS) has been developing several key technologies such as CMOS RF circuits and design technologies, IPs and products such as Bluetooth RF transceivers, modem LSI for 3G/WCDMA, firmware and RF system verification environments. Eighty-three percent of its personnel are involved into research and development, wherein 65 percent have post-graduate degrees.

"OTCS has been our close partner in the past decade," said Dim Lee Kwong, executive director of Institute of Microelectronics (IME). "Together we pioneered in RF design activity in Singapore and collaborated in many successful projects such as the Bluetooth CMOS RFIC. We are excited to see that OTCS has established itself strongly in the field and is now offering RF solutions worldwide."

Ulf Schneider, president of Microelectronics IC Design and System Association (MIDAS), said, "This company is a fine example of foreign companies which have pioneered in RF IC design in Singapore in collaboration with A*STAR [Agency for Science, Technology and Research] institutes, in producing many leading RF CMOS solutions in the area of Bluetooth, WLAN and others. We look forward to OTCS further facilitating with us the R&D growth of Singapore's microelectronics industry.?
